2020 Virtual Mini-Tri

2020 Virtual Mini-Tri

Due to COVID-19, we regret that we are unable to hold our weekly Monday Night Mini-Triathlon series for the first time in 34 years. However, we are excited to keep you tri-ing this summer! We encourage you to complete our traditional course consisting of a 400-yard swim in Mirror Lake, 12-mile bike ride over scenic River Road, and 3-mile run on Mt. Whitney Road while respecting the guidelines placed by New York State for the prevention of COVID-19. Complete the course before the end of the summer to be eligible to win some of our famous raffle prizes.

CAUTION!!!

Triathlons are inherently dangerous. By taking part in this do it yourself event, you are participating at your own risk. We ask that you please follow all New York State rules of the road. You are subject to all traffic laws and are expected to ride single file as close to the right shoulder of the road as is safe. Details here - https://www.dot.ny.gov/display/programs/bicycle/safety_laws/laws#:~:text=%C2%A7%201232.,it%20is%20designed%20and%20equipped. Runners should run against traffic.

Please respect the guidelines placed by New York State for the prevention of COVID-19 by maintaining social distance and wearing a mask when this is not possible. For the latest information and regulations for visitors coming to our area please refer to New York State for up to date guidance with regards to COVID-19 policies: https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/home

How does it work?

We hope that you can get out and complete the swim, bike, and run, or get your family together for a team effort! If you have a tracking device (GPS watch, phone, bike computer), use that to track your time and to verify course completion. Below you will find a place that you can upload your activity file to submit your race. If you don't have a tracking device and you're in the market for one, come to the store and we can help! If you don't have a tracking device and a new shiny watch isn't in the cards for this year, it is okay. We ask you to submit your honest time below. (Do we want your splits? If you have them send them our way, if you don't, that is okay too!)

When can I complete this event?

Here is the best part, you can complete it whenever you want between now and September 15th. We will be pulling names for raffles in mid-September, so get your results in before then!

Will the be prizes?

How could it be a Mini-Triathlon without raffle prizes? We will be awarding prizes to the top 3 male and female times, the youngest and oldest competitors, and some random raffle winners. All prize winners will be notified via email and will need to report to High Peaks Cyclery to pick up their prize.

Is there a fee?

There is a suggested donation of $15 to the New York State Educational Ski Foundation. Donate Here: https://app.etapestry.com/onlineforms/NewYorkSkiEducatinFoundati/nysef.html (enter mini-tri in additional information field). We are passionate about empowering youth to pursue life-long healthy activities. NYSEF offers opportunities to local youth to explore various snow sport activities. However, if you are unable to donate at this time, we understand and please still participate!

Swim

The swim starts on the beach directly next to the public tennis courts in Lake Placid. The swim is an out and back on the right shoulder of Mirror Lake. There will be a big orange buoy to indicate the turn around point for the swim. If the buoy is missing, the turn around point is a red hydrant along the shore.
